The Tree of Hope is an annual fundraiser whose mission is to provide increased comfort and care for cancer patients.
The funds raised are used to purchase specialized equipment for the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, as well as to offer advanced training opportunities for specialized oncology teams and support cancer research here in New Brunswick.
Projects receive funding based on the needs identified at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre and in other Dumont UHC departments offering a continuum in oncology care, for example, the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge.
Over the years, the Tree of Hope Campaign has supported the construction of the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge, where close to 2,000 people are accommodated free of charge each year. This number includes patients from outside the Greater Moncton region who require cancer treatment not available in their region, as well as a companion. The funds raised each year also help fund renovation and maintenance projects at the Lodge.
For the 2020–2021 period, the Foundation has committed to funding four main projects:
- The acquisition of a CT-SIM, a device similar to a CT-Scan for radiotherapy;
- The purchase of an echocardiography device and an adapted stretcher for the Breast Health Centre;
- The purchase of two syringe pumps to deliver oxygen and a pediatric bed for the pediatric oncology unit; and
- The purchase of a vital signs monitor and two bedside tables for the Edmundston oncology unit.
For the second year in a row, the campaign results will be unveiled during a special program* presented by Radio-Canada Acadie. Supporters of the cause are invited to tune in to ICI Première between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 27th.
