The CHU Dumont Foundation, for a better healthcare experience

Since its creation 40 years ago, the CHU Dumont Foundation has reinvested over $70 million in projects designed to improve the experience of patients and their loved ones at the Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center! These projects - made possible thanks to the generosity of the public - include the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, infrastructure improvements and support for researchers, with the aim of ensuring that patients have access to the best possible care. Here are just a few examples:

  • Roche Lightcycler 480 PCR device for rapid, efficient screening of viruses responsible for viral pneumonia
  • Rifton TRAM to improve patient transfer and mobility in the physiotherapy department
  • Two fetal monitors for pregnancy follow-up in the Mother and Child Care Unit
  • Renovation of two rooms and a lounge in palliative care to create a more serene environment for patients and their families
  • Expansion of the Heart Health Program to improve cardiovascular health
  • Implementation of the AMPROOB program to improve patient safety in the obstetrics department
  • Installation of a Snoezelen room in child psychiatry to facilitate the integration and well-being of young patients
  • Terraces (central terrace, in geriatrics and palliative care) to enable patients to get out in the fresh air

Of course, the Tree of Hope campaign is back again this year, with a project to implement a specialized radiosurgery technique that, once again, will enable patients to be treated here at home, rather than having to be transferred elsewhere to access the technology.  Every year, over a hundred patients present with brain tumours caused by cancers other than brain cancer. By treating these lesions in a targeted manner, we can avoid having to treat the whole brain.

On National Philanthropy Day, November 15, the Foundation thanks its loyal donors and salutes the remarkable commitment of organizations, students and volunteers across the province who organize fundraising activities for various campaigns, including the Tree of Hope, which has become an annual iconic event on the New Brunswick landscape.

On behalf of our patients and their families, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity!
