James (Jim) Lockyer named Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors

Moncton, February 22, 2024 – The Chair of the CHU Dumont Foundation’s Board of Directors, Sébastien Dupuis, is pleased to announce the appointment of James (Jim) Lockyer as Vice-Chair of the Board. His appointment is effective immediately, for a 3-year term.

A lawyer by training, Mr. Lockyer has distinguished himself, among other things, as a former dean and professor at the Université de Moncton's Faculty of Law for over 45 years. In addition to his brilliant academic career, Mr. Lockyer has demonstrated dedication, leadership, and an edifying sense of responsibility in the performance of his public duties.

His career as a politician began in 1983, when he was elected to Moncton City Council. He was subsequently elected to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly in 1987. His leadership and exemplary skills enabled him to hold a number of high-profile ministerial positions, including Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Minister of Supply and Services, Minister of Education, and Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, and Solicitor General.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Lockyer has been instrumental in improving the collective well-being of the people of New Brunswick. Deeply committed to his fellow citizens, Mr. Lockyer served as President of the Law Society of New Brunswick, Chair of the YMCA Greater Moncton, Co-Chair of the YWCA Transitional Campaign, Vice-Chair of the CHU Dumont Foundation’s Tree of Hope Campaign, Chair of the 3 Plus Economic Development Corporation of Greater Moncton, Vice-Chair of the Greater Moncton International Airport Authority and Honorary Colonel of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise's). His extraordinary volunteerism and contributions to the legal profession and the province were recognized in 2018 when he received the Order of New Brunswick.

"Jim's impressive track record as a lawyer, professor and seasoned politician will greatly benefit the CHU Dumont Foundation. His solid reputation makes him an unparalleled role model for community involvement, and we are fortunate to have him join our Board of Directors. His wise counsel and determination will play a key role in positioning and expanding the Foundation's reach," said Mr. Dupuis.

The Board of Directors and the entire CHU Dumont Foundation team welcome Mr. Lockyer to our extended family!
